Box to Box’s Roger Tames sets off for Ethiopia to produce the worldwide television coverage of Africa’s biggest road race.

More than 25,000 runners will fill the streets of Addis Ababa for the annual Great Ethiopian Run, the overseas brother of Tyneside’s famous Great North Run.

Roger has covered the previous two races and will help co-ordinate the race coverage by a team of enthusiastic Ethiopian camera crews. He'll also use his own cameraman to shoot many of the fascinating stories that surround one of Africa's most spectacular sporting occasions.

Newcastle sports production company Filmova have brought in Roger to put together a half hour programe which will be transmitted on channel Five. As part of the prestigious Great Run series, it will also be aired to a worldwide audience through sports networks such as ESPN, Sky Sports and Sport Africa.

“I'm really looking forward to going back to Addis Ababa which is an unbelievable city,” said Roger. “The Ethiopians are obsessed with running and I've made some good friends among the organisers of the race.

“The Great Ethiopian Run brings a lot of positive publicity to a great country which has to deal some enormous problems. I always feel a massive responsibility to make sure we get the programme right.”
